Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 13, at the Church of Christ in Jefferson for Dorothy LaVonne Adamson, 96, of Jefferson.
Words of comfort were offered by Pastor Bruce Webster of the church. Music was provided by Bret Schilling, Jill Lamoureux and Mark Wright.
Casket bearers were Kreg Hoskinson, Kary Hoskinson, Bruce Wessling, Jon Brelsford, Joey Brelsford and Mac Adamson. Interment was at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery.
Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home of Jefferson assisted the family.
Dorothy Lavonne Murphy Adamson was born June 9, 1920, at Bayard, the daughter of Otto and Elsie Murphy. She attended Bayard school and graduated in 1938. She met Pat Adamson at a café where she was a waitress and they were united in marriage on July 2, 1939.
The couple farmed in Bayard, Jefferson and Grand Junction. They continued farming until Pat retired in 1977, at which time they moved to their new home in Grand Junction. In 2001 Dorothy and Pat moved to a condo in Jefferson. After Pat’s death in 2008, Dorothy moved to Ever Greene Ridge where she made valuable friendships and continued to enjoy life.
Dorothy was a busy homemaker. She raised and dressed chickens, sold eggs and made every outfit for her three daughters. Dorothy enjoyed her friendships at YW Hybrids sorting corn for several years. She also cooked for the Grand Junction Lions Club and made up to 18 pies a day for the farmers market in Jefferson. She won numerous pie awards and was known as the local pie lady and made delicious cinnamon rolls.
Dorothy died Jan. 5, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, grandson Kriss Hoskinson, a brother Donald and a sister Bonnie.
Survivors include her children Janet Kennedy and her husband Richard, Judy Wessling and her husband Roger, Jill Brelsford and her husband Craig, all of Grand Junction, Jim Adamson and his wife Janet of Panora, and Jay Adamson and his wife Cindy of Jefferson. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and many friends.
